With so many different baby products on the market, and with what seems like a never ending checklist of essentials, buying everything you need for your new arrival can be quite a confusing time. It’s important to not panic buy and instead you’ll feel more organised if you make lists and focus on the things you really need. You could even try to organise your list into categories i.e feeding, sleeping etc and concentrate on one category at a time- which should make working your way down the list a whole lot easier. Here I share some essential, innovative baby products that have been designed to make your life as a new parent just that little bit easier.
‘The Royal Baby Effect’
When Prince George made his first public appearance in his Aden + Anais swaddle blanket back in 2013, according to ABC News, over 10,000 orders were placed almost immediately. Since then, lots of parents have considered swaddle blankets an absolute essential to comfort and keep their newborns warm.
These baby swaddle blankets have an innovative pocket design which means your baby’s legs will stay in a “natural hip-healthy position”. The idea is so that parents do not have to worry about over-tightening the blanket.
Changing & Travel Backpack
Having a bag to store all of your baby’s items in goes without saying but you may find that the changing bags that come as part of the pram or the ones you buy to match with your pram, do not have enough space for everything you need.
Choosing a backpack that can be worn by both parents will be really practical for days out. These Gigil Changing and Travel backpacks are super spacious and you can even charge your phone from it! The backpacks also include:
- a changing mat
- over 10 different compartments for your essentials
- a foiled lined front pocket for keeping your baby’s milk warm
- opening in the back of the bag for easy access
- a separate foiled lined portable bag
I no longer use the changing bag that came with our buggy and instead I just use my Gigil Travel and Changing backpack. It’s perfect for days out, can be worn by my partner, and fits everything I need.
Highchair that evolves with your baby
Taking the top spot for the third year running in the Baby Centre’s Mums’ Picks 2018 was Stokke and their chair that grows with the child. In the classic Scandi-chic design that parents around the world still can’t get enough of, this high chair has a highly adjustable seat and footplate positions, suitable for children right up until 36 months.

These hipseats from Hippychick are specifically designed to address this and give parent’s the back and hip support they need. Tradition over Innovation
But sometimes good old traditional methods always come out top in the end…
The Baby Centre’s Mums’ Picks 2018 concluded that the Milton Cold Water Steriliser is a firm favourite with mums across the UK, beating the big names and their offering of fancy microwave sterilisers.
Instead, mum’s liked that it doesn’t have any wires or electrics and think that it’s simple to use as you can leave the bottles in there for 24 hours, and take them out as and when you need them.
I must admit, I am a fan of Milton and their anti-bacterial wipes are so handy and can be even now used on dummies when you’re out and about.
